PLEA IN LEAVING FATAL CRASH

PLEA IN LEAVING FATAL CRASH

Brian E. Kowasa age 27, of Runnemede pleaded guilty Monday, March 6th to striking a pedestrian with his vehicle in Deptford Township on 9/7/14 and leaving the scene of the crash that resulted in the death of a 53-year-old West Deptford man. As a result of negotiations over the second-degree charge,  Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Michael Mellon will recommend that Kowasa be sentenced to six years in New Jersey state prison.   Superior Court Judge Robert P. Becker scheduled sentencing for 5/12/17.

In the collision,  Kowasa was driving a Dodge Ram truck north on Route 45 when the vehicle struck Richard McClellan, who the investigation determined had been crossing the road.  Kowasa pulled over briefly and exited his vehicle, then left the scene, investigators reported. He turned himself in to Deptford police several hours later.
