LEO EDWARD WARRINER – Obituary

Leo Edward Warriner, Jr., age 74, on Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 28, 1952, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the beloved son of the late Leo Edward and Dorothy Marie (nee Sanderson) Warriner, Sr.

Leo was raised in Southwest Philadelphia, where he learned the values of hard work, loyalty, and family that guided him throughout his life. In 1970, he graduated from West Catholic School for Boys and later earned an Associate Degree from Philadelphia Community College.

Leo answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy, where he proudly served aboard the USS Newman K. Perry (DD-883),  USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63), USS Julius A. Furer (FFG-6), and USS Wainwright (CG-28). During his 24 years of military service, he traveled the world and visited places including Spain, Italy, and Iceland, as well as many states across the country. He often shared stories of those travels with his family, and his memories of life at sea and abroad became cherished parts of the family history. Leo served honorably during the Gulf War and retired from the Navy in 1994 after a distinguished career of service and sacrifice.

Following his military retirement, Leo continued his life of dedication through his work as a Postal Clerk at the Glassboro United States Post Office, where he served for more than 20 years before retiring in 2015. His strong work ethic, reliability, and friendly nature made him a respected and valued part of his workplace community.

Leo made his home in Clayton, New Jersey, for 31 years, where he built a life centered on family, routine, and simple pleasures. He enjoyed a cold Natty Daddy Beer while reading the newspaper, and he especially liked spending summer evenings on the front porch listening to oldies on the radio. Leo also enjoyed staying active by working out on his bike and treadmill.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dora Mae (nee Derrickson) Warriner, whom he married on January 10, 1981. Caring father to Rita Leo, Kevin Ervine and his wife Shelly, Leo Warriner III and his wife Jennifer, Brian Warriner, Eric Warriner, and Stephen Warriner and his wife Kristen. Proud grandfather to Nicole, Jessica, Dominic, Micayla, Jason, Logan, Lena, Savanna, Jackson, Jon, and the late Stella Mae. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Maggie, Emma, Trinity, Giovani, Gwendolyn, Ryder, Dakota, and Willow.

Brother to Kathy Marie and the late Barbara Jean. He leaves behind his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom will remember his steady presence, his humor, and his love for family.
