The Sentinel was founded in 1942 by William D. Caccese. The Merckx Family of Malaga, Franklin Township purchased the weekly newspaper in July of 2008.
Cindy Merckx is the Editor & Publisher. Norman Merckx Jr. is the Sports Editor and Graphic Designer.
The paper is published every Thursday by Cindy Merckx Publications, LLC t/a The Sentinel of Gloucester County. There is 1200+ subscribers with the majority of readers in the Franklin, Elk, Monroe and Washington Township area, as well as the Boroughs of Clayton, Newfield and Glassboro and the city of Vineland.
