DAVID WILLIAMSON, SR. – Obituary

David Williamson Sr., 81, of Newfield died late Saturday evening September 11, 2021 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland after a period of declining health.

He was born in Waynesville, NC and was the son of the late Walker “Doc” and Annie Sutton Williamson. David was the husband of Catherine Fairman Williamson to whom he had been married for 58 years. He attended and was a graduate of Bridgeton High School with the Class of 1958.

Mr. Williamson was the co-founder of Newfield Nursery, LLC with his brother, Ken. Later the nursery ownership was assumed by Dave’s two sons, David Jr. and Robert. Before the nursery was founded, he was employed at the former Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Bridgeton. He and his brother also briefly owned a Kirby Vacuum cleaner franchise in Vineland.

He enjoyed fishing and playing his once-a-week poker game. He was also an avid bowler for many years; bowling at Pike Lanes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David Williamson Jr. and his wife Donna of Upper Deerfield Twp. and Robert Williamson and his wife Catherine “Tassy” of Newfield and a daughter, Lori Taylor of Colorado, five grandchildren, Danielle Ackley (Dennis), Linda, Robert, Joseph and Megan Williamson and one great grandson, Michael Williamson. He is also survived by one brother, Kenneth Williamson (Theresa) of Winter Haven, FL, one sister, Kathy Willis (Rodney) of Upper Deerfield Twp. and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one grandson, Jeremy Taylor.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton on Friday afternoon September 17th at 2 o’clock where friends will be received from 12:30 until 2.

The interment will take place at the Deerfield Methodist Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Williamson’s memory are requested to the Cystic Fibrosis Research, Delaware Valley Chapter, 2002 Sproul Road, Ste. 102, Broomall, Pa 19008.
