SUSAN MARIE FRECK – Obituary

Susan Marie Freck of Vineland on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.  Age 64.  Mother of Brandi Floyd (husband Ken), Shannon Gafgen (husband Gary), Kristen Freck (husband Kyle), and Matthew Freck (partner Ashlee).  Grandmother of Jackson Floyd, James Floyd, Abigail Gafgen, Ashley Gafgen, Kyle Serduk Jr., and Chase Serduk.  Daughter of the late Warren G. & Margaret C. (nee Leech) Kendig.  Sister of Nancie Zucchi, Linda Jones, Kevin Kendig, Warren Kendig, Michael Kendig, Joanne Scully, and Lisa Evans.

Born in Upper Darby, PA and raised in Franklinville where she attended Delsea Regional High School, Susan was a resident of Newfield for 20 years and most recently of Vineland.  Her primary focus was as a mother and taking care of the home.  Additionally, Susan worked as a teacher’s aide at the Trinity Learning Center in Clayton and then as a lunch aide at the Edgarton Memorial School in Newfield.  Later in her life, she worked in customer service for MacDonald Communications in Vineland.

Susan loved spending time with family and friends.  She was very generous and would do anything for anyone she knew in a time of need.  Susan was known for a good cup of coffee; there was always a pot of coffee on at Susan’s home.  Her door was always open and she was the best listener when someone needed to talk.  She enjoyed watching good TV shows, Elvis, desserts and the beach.  Susan was naturally shy and a bit of an introvert. She would often break out of that shyness to help care for others.  She would share the story of her life to help connect with and inspire them.  Considering the tragedy she had endured 15 years ago, her personal resilience was remarkable.  While many might have been knocked down, she was still happy and would see and focus on the positives in life.  Never to be defined by the adversities of her life, Susan saw them as giving purpose to her life allowing her to help and motivate others.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all of the nurses, aides, therapists, and other staff members who have helped care for their mother during the past 15 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312 with a memorial service beginning at 12:00 PM.  Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Susan to New Jersey Audubon, 9 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ 07924.  Sign the guestbook at BarclayFuneralHome.net.
