SENTENCING IN ROBBERY OF ELDERLY COUPLE

Press Release from GCPO

Michael Meyers age 32, of Braddock NJ, was sentenced on Monday (2/5/18) to 17 years in New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty to stealing the car of an elderly Washington Township couple on 5/12/16. In sentencing Meyers, Superior Court Judge M. Christine Allen-Jackson said he will be subject to New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, requiring a defendant to serve 85 percent of a prison term before parole eligibility.

In the 5/12/16 incident, Meyers was identified as the suspect who entered a Forrest Drive home after telling the residents someone was trying to kill him. He grabbed the keys to their vehicle and left the house, cut the husband on the arm when he tried to stop him and drove off in their car. Meyers was apprehended the same day after robbing a nearby service station of cigarettes and fleeing in the stolen car. Police stopped him in Winslow Township.
