ROBERT LEWIS PHILLIPS – Obituary
Robert Lewis Phillips of Clayton on Friday, December 15, 2023. Age 89. Husband of the late Erma Vera Phillips (nee Brynan). Father of Joann E. Neeld and Barbara E. McKee, both of Blackwood. Stepfather of Denise L. Brynan of Paulsboro and the late Susan L. Brynan. Grandfather of William R. Neeld, Jr., Maryann Neeld, Matthew Cavanaugh, Geronimo V. Lopez, Jr., Alexander S. Lopez, Jonathan M. Lopez, Nicole Phillips, Amber Fortson, Peggy Greene, April Brynan, and the late Corey Fortson. Great-grandfather of 18. Son of the late Raymond & Elsie Mae (nee Harley) Phillips. Brother of Judith M. Phillips, Lawrence D. Phillips, and the late Raymond L. Phillips, Jr., William B. Phillips, Charles E. Phillips, Carol Phillips, and Dorothy A. Phillips.
Born in Pitman and raised in Turnersville, Robert has been a resident of Clayton for the past 50 years. He attended Glassboro Public School and retired from Watson’s Quality Turkey Products in Blackwood beginning as a turkey inoculator and working his way up to later becoming an Industrial Sanitation Specialist. Robert also worked at numerous farms over the years picking fruits and vegetables. He had a voracious appetite for reading, sometimes finishing a book a day. Throughout most of his life, Robert had a vegetable garden, which he loved tending to. For a time, he served as a volunteer fireman with the Lambs Terrance Fire Company.
