THOMAS CHARLES SEAGRAVE, SR. – Obituary

Thomas Charles Seagrave, Sr. of Clayton on Friday, August 20, 2021. Age 73. Husband of 50 years to Sandra Jean Seagrave (nee Rulon). Father of Thomas Seagrave, John Seagrave, and Melissa Sells (son-in-law Russell). Grandfather of Scott Seagrave, Matthew Seagrave, and Ryan Sells. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Brother of Ruthann Hoolahan, Marylou Waterhouse, Ellen Howell, Jeanette Lord, and Robert, Albert, and Jerry Seagrave, and the late Bruce, James, George, David, Morris, and Joseph Seagrave and Judy Eckert and Elizabeth “Betty” Turner. Step-brother of the late Robert Hinton. Son of the late Joseph H. Seagrave and the late Elizabeth “Betty” Seagrave Hinton (nee Hoffman), and step-son of the late Carroll J. Hinton.

Born and raised in Clayton, Thomas attended Clayton Schools from Kindergarten to 11th Grade and graduated from Williamstown High School in 1967. He volunteered and proudly served in the US Army for three years during the Vietnam War. Thomas later returned to Clayton where he has been a resident for the past 46 years.

Thomas worked as a groundskeeper and night watch for 14 years for Pine Valley Golf Club and later worked 14 years in the maintenance department at Tenneco in Clayton. After a few years at Hungerford & Terry, also in Clayton, he spent his last years as a driver for AutoLenders in Berlin, a job he loved very much.

Thomas was a lifetime member of the VFW in Glassboro. He enjoyed camping, especially in his younger years. Fishing was his favorite hobby, and he would wait the entire year for a nice day to go out in his boat. Thomas loved his family more than anything else and was a simple man who worked hard throughout his life to support his family. He left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. There was no place Thomas would rather be than sitting around a fire with family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Saturday, August 28, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ. Funeral service at 12:00 PM. Interment at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the family to assist with funeral costs.
