SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH

Press Release from Franklin Twp Police Department (10/15/2021)

(Newfield) – On Thursday, October 14th at approximately 8:47 PM, Franklin Township police were dispatched to the intersection of West Blvd and Catawba Avenue for a motor vehicle crash with injuries and entrapment.   Upon police arrival, witnesses at the scene advised police that the accused vehicle, a silver colored Mitsubishi Eclipse, was traveling north on the West Blvd when it failed to stop at the intersection and collided with the victims vehicle, a green colored Honda Accord that was traveling east on Catawba Avenue.  

     The Mitsubishi Eclipse left the scene of the accident and continued north on West Blvd where it was seen by a witness turn onto Grubb Road and then left onto Harding highway traveling west.   The front passenger, a 17-year-old male from Vineland was in and out of consciousness and entrapped in the vehicle.   With the assistance of the Malaga Fire and Newfield Fire Departments, the victim was freed from the vehicle and flown by helicopter to Cooper Hospital.   The driver and two additional passengers were also transported to the hospital by ambulance.   The driver of the Mitsubishi, 38 year old Pedro Gonzalez of Vineland, was located in the parking lot of the Liberty Bell Motel where he was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury.   Gonzalez was transported to the hospital for medical clearance and then lodged at the Salem County Jail.   The motor vehicle crash is being investigated Officer Theuret.   Assisting at the crash was Gloucester County EMS, Inspira Paramedics, Newfield and Malaga Fire Departments.
