Marie C. Filippello – Obituary
Marie C. Filippello (nee Cairns) of Elk Township on Thursday, May 20, 2021. Age 93. Wife of 37 years to the late John Joseph Filippello. Mother of John F. Filippello (Donna) of Fergus Falls, MN; Elizabeth Allen (Jeff) of Elk Township; and James J. Filippello (Patricia) of Elk Township. Grandmother of 10, and great-grandmother of 20. Sister of the late Elizabeth Meder. Daughter of the late Archibald & Mary (nee Ferguson) Cairns.
Marie was born, raised, and a lifelong resident of Elk Township. She was a graduate of Glassboro High School and attended Glassboro State College where she earned a certification as a NJ School Business Administrator. As a young woman, Marie worked as a Bank Teller for Glassboro National Bank and later as the Elk Township Tax Collector for about 10 years. She was the Business Administrator for the Elk Township School District Aura School for 25 years until her retirement. Marie was an active and longtime member of Saint Catherine of Siena RC Church in Clayton. She was also a longtime member of the Aura Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and treasurer of the Elk Township Senior Citizens. Along with her husband, Marie traveled the world. She enjoyed reading, tending to her flower gardens, spending time with her family, and swimming in her pool even as recently as last year. Later in life, she enjoyed the companionship of several dogs who she loved very much.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Sunday, May 23, 2021, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM and on Monday, May 24, 2021, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ. Funeral mass on Monday at 11:00 AM at Saint Catherine of Siena RC Church, 49 W. North Street, Clayton, NJ 08312. Interment at Saint Bridget Cemetery, Glassboro.
