DR. MEL MOYER – Obituary

Dr. Mel Moyer, of Port Charlotte, FL, born in 1933, passed away after suffering a stroke during the summer of 2022. Mel was a 1950 graduate of West Mahanoy Twp. High School, Shenandoah, PA., and the son of Carril and Prudence Moyer He joined the Air Force during the Korean War and served four years as an intercept radio operator with The Elite Air Force Security Service.

Mel received a B.A. in History from Glassboro State College, his Masters degree in Psychology from Temple University and a Doctorate in Education/Psychology from Rutgers University. Mel retired as Professor Emeritus from Rowan University (formerly Glassboro State College) after teaching for 33 years.

Mel met his wife, Beth Kelly, at Glassboro State College. They were married in 1962. They had their home in Pennsauken, NJ, before moving to Port Charlotte, FL in 2003. His leisure love was downhill skiing and he often said he felt closest to God and nature while on the slopes. He was also an avid NFL fan who attended Eagles games yearly – a regular source of frustration. He shared his passion, and regular source of frustration, with his son Kirk who he would take with him to a few games each year. His son Kyle would go to the Dallas game each year and would root against the Eagles. He also enjoyed a martini with friends after work.

Mel learned to ski in the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania where he and Beth shared ownership of a house on Lake Wallenpaupack with friends. His family would spend several weeks each year at the house. He enjoyed the quiet and relaxing days on the lake.

He was a loving husband and father. Mel is survived by his wife of 60 years Beth Kelly Moyer, son Kirk Moyer, daughter Nicole Moyer and grandson Kyle Steven Moyer and great granddaughter Kendall Love. He was predeceased by his son Kyle and daughter Paige.

Please join us in loving, sharing, and memorializing Mel on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Eugene J. Zale Funeral Home located at 712 N White Horse Pike in Stratford, NJ. Memorial service to immediately follow at 1 PM. The family wishes that in lieu of flowers you donate to the American Heart and Stroke Association or a charity of your choice.
