DOROTHY ANNE JONES- Obituary
Dorothy Anne Jones (nee Dieser) of Franklinville passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Age 79. Beloved wife of 44 years to the late Leonard R. Jones, Sr. Mother of Leonard R. Jones, Jr. (Rachel), Jennifer Jones-LoPresti (Joe), and Brian K. Jones (Jessica DeBaro). Loving grandmother of Jakob, Jordan, and Delaney Jones and David, Jr., Jake, Josh, and Isaiah Diaz. Sister of the late Philip E. Dieser, Jr. (late Carolyn) and sister-in-law of Gary Jones (Jeanette). Aunt to Philip E. Dieser, III (Nicole), Kevin Jones (Kelly), and the late Karen Both. Daughter of the late Philip Edward & Dorothy Mae (nee Garrity) Dieser.
Born in Camden and raised in Gloucester Heights, Dorothy has been a resident of Franklinville for the past 47 years. She was a 1961 graduate of Gloucester City High School and retired in 2000 after 23 years at Bradlees in Turnersville where she worked in the Human Resources Department dealing with the hiring of personnel as well as payroll and later in the Cash Office Management.
Dorothy remained friends with many of her coworkers and would regularly get together for lunch. Additionally she remained close to her childhood and HS girlfriends who were like family to her. They attended luncheons together as well as class reunions.
As a child, Dorothy spent many of her summers on the beach in the popup “Tent City” on what is now called Diamond Beach. Her father later built a family home in the Villas where she would spend a lot of time throughout much of her life.
Dorothy was a big crafter, an avid reader, and loved tending to the flowers in her gardens. She also loved antiquing, going to countless antique stores and flea markets, liked watching plays and musicals, and enjoyed camping with her husband through the years. Dorothy was crazy about the Food Network and HGTV and once embarked on a long-distance pilgrimage to HGTV’s Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Market in Waco, TX. She also regularly enjoyed more local car rides including touring the South Jersey shore.
Dorothy lived for her children and later her grandchildren. She got the biggest joy watching them grow up and enjoyed listening to them share with her what they were doing from rebuilding motors, to participating in theatre, to earning an MMA blackbelt. Dorothy recently commented that she has lived a good life for her children and grandchildren and wouldn’t change a thing.
