‘LOCK DOWN’ – SOCIAL MEDIA THREAT TARGETED CLAYTON HIGH SCHOOL

On June 15th, 2018 at approximately 9:30AM the Clayton School District learned of a social media threat that was posted on an Instagram account belonging to Amante Brice a 19 year old Clayton resident. Mr. Brice posted a picture of Clayton High School with the caption that read, “revenge is a (explicative redacted) the next S.S.” (School Shooting). The caption had gun emoji symbols
throughout. Clayton School District administration contacted the Clayton Police Department immediately about the threat. Clayton High School was put on a “lock in place” as a cautionary measure for about 10 minutes, while the threat was assessed. A “lock in place” is a heightened level of security. Visitors to the school are restricted and the students are kept out of the hallways but teaching and other day to day operations continue. Clayton Police with the assistance of the Clayton School District administration quickly identified the suspect as Amante Brice. Within an hour Mr. Brice was located in the City of Vineland and taken into police custody. Vineland Police Department assisted with Mr. Brice’s apprehension. Mr. Brice was charged with Terroristic Threats (2C:12-3a), Causing a False Public Alarm (2C:33-3a) and Disorderly Conduct (2C:33-2a). Mr. Brice is currently incarcerated at the Salem County Jail.
