HARRY ROGER YOUNG, SR. – Obituary
Harry Roger Young, Sr. of Clayton went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at his home where he spent the last 60 years. He was born on January 25, 1928 in Lancaster, New Hampshire, the son of the late Frank Allen and Nancy Flora (nee Fuller) Young.
Surviving is his son, Roger Young and his wife Ruth Ann Young of Maple Shade. Predeceased by daughter Diane Fleury, 1 sister, and 4 brothers. Survived by 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Survived by his first wife, Carolyn Bonney, and predeceased by Mae Young.
Harry served in the US Army in 1946 (Philippines). He moved to New Jersey in 1956. He met the Lord in 1962 and because of his testimony and influence he made a lasting impact both upon his immediate family and for his Lord whom he served faithfully for many years.
Harry was a carpenter all of his life working with Scarborough Builders in Cherry Hill, Colucci Lumber in Malaga, and Fisler & Crane Lumber in Clayton until his retirement at age 62.
He attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Clayton, NJ “whenever the church was open”. He became a lay preacher and taught Sunday School. Harry loved going to Malaga Camp in the summer. He was a founding member of the Faith Bible Church in 1977 and trustee and loyal supporter of Faith Christian Academy where he loved his “Defenders”. In his later years, Harry attended Clayton Baptist Church where he was a regular attendant. He loved the church dinners and God and Country Day but above that he loved his church family. He was a big sports fan – the Yankees, Giants, and the Rangers. He loved listening to Family Radio and the Sunday dinners with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday, February 11, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312. Funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Malaga Camp Meeting with checks made payable to West Jersey Grove Association, 4488 Arbutus Avenue, Newfield, NJ 08344.
