EUGENE JOHN ‘GENE’ MANNINO – Obituary
Eugene John “Gene” Mannino on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. Age 88. Gene is preceded in death by his son, John Mannino, and survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Midge, of Clayton, his son, Steve (Gerri) of Pittsgrove, daughter, Traci Cantrell (Derwin) of Virginia, daughter-in-law, Joan (John) of Clayton, brother, Joseph (Ruth) of Glassboro, sister, Marilyn Leon (Bruce) of Clayton. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Ricky, Lenore, Joseph, Jake, Dustin, Maria, Damon, Tara, Andrew, and Carmen; 4 great-grandchildren, Nina, Sami, Julian, and Presley; as well as many loving extended family and friends. He is also predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Mary Mannino, his sister, Mary Acconey, and his brother, Angelo Mannino.
Born in Sicklerville and raised in Glassboro, Gene was a 1952 graduate of Glassboro High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a Land Surveyor stationed at Yuma Air Force Base, Arizona, Lowry Air Force Base, Denver, Colorado, and ended his time in the service at McQuire Air Force Base, Burlington County, New Jersey.
After serving in the military, Gene owned and operated Gene’s Flying ‘A’ Gas Station in Pitman from 1958 to 1961. At the same time, he purchased his first big rig in ’58 and Gene & Midge’s trucking business was born. Over 40 years, Triple ‘M’ Leasing owned their own equipment and successfully employed 10 drivers. Gene hauled various items millions of safe miles across the US and Canada. He was a proud member of Teamsters Local #676 for 40 years and served for many years as their Shop Steward.
Gene and Midge raised their family on Focer Street in Glassboro for 40 years.
In retirement, they traveled together to North Port, Florida in 2002 and enjoyed 18 years in the sunshine before moving back to New Jersey in 2019 and residing in Clayton.
Gene owned a Piper Cub aircraft and enjoyed flying for many years. He was a proud member of the Glassboro AC Club for 10+ years and a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed boating and fishing as well as riding his motorcycle, but most of all he loved spending time with his family
Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Italian Affair, 900 Delsea Drive, Glassboro, NJ 08028.
