CHARLES W. ‘CHUCK’ GILL, JR. – Obituary
Served as Sheriff of Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department from 1994 through 2000
Charles W. “Chuck” Gill Jr. age 78 years of Mickleton passed away on Friday June 5, 2026 at Atlas Subacute Care, Woodbury. He was born in Camden and raised in Paulsboro where he was a 1965 graduate of Paulsboro High School. Chuck lived in Woodbury for 39 years before moving to Mickleton. He was a graduate of Glassboro State College and started his police career in Pitman. He then worked in Logan Township before moving to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department; serving as Sheriff from 1994 through 2000. Chuck was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the retirees of PBA Lodge #122; served on both the Emergency Management and Environmental Commissions for East Greenwich Township; member of Elks Lodge #2708; former president of Sheriff’s Association of New Jersey and was founder of The Copper Open Golf Tournament which raised money annually to donate to various charities. Chuck was active in the sport of soccer, playing in college, serving as a referee and was the first Paulsboro High School soccer coach. He was a Master Gardener who owned a small local nursery and enjoyed doing woodworking crafts.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gwen Gill (nee Simek); his sons, Joshua (Amy) Gill of Doylestown, PA and Ryan (Maria) Gill of Mt. Laurel; his grandsons, Grayson, Parker and Graham; his brother, Gary (LuAnn) Gill of Mickleton and his brother in law, Tom Simek and his partner, Paul Artfip. Chuck was predeceased by his parents, Charles Sr. and Pearl Gill; his sister, Darlene Higgins and his grandson, Jude Gill. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Friday June 12, 2026 in the McBride – Foley Funeral Home, 228 W. Broad St., Paulsboro. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Friday morning after 9 AM until service time. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
