Arthur Bass – Obituary

Arthur J. Bass, 68, of Janvier, NJ passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026.  Arthur was a lifelong resident of the Janvier community. He dedicated more than 50 years of his life to serving others as a proud member of the Janvier Volunteer Fire Company and as a fire warden with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. His unwavering commitment, courage, and selfless service touched countless lives and earned him the respect and admiration of everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Arthur’s greatest pride was his family. He shared 43 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maryann. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. He was a proud father to his daughter, Lauren, and adored his grand-dog, Candi, who was never far from his side.

When Arthur wasn’t serving his community, he enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved drag racing, looked forward to sharing ice cream cones with Candi, and took great pride in keeping his lawn immaculate—often mowing it several times a week simply because he enjoyed it. These everyday moments reflected the kind of man he was: hardworking, dependable, and someone who found happiness in life’s little traditions.

Arthur was preceded in death by his loving mother, Dorothy Bass (née Petersen); his father, Joseph Bass; and his sister, Ruth Ann Irelan. Arthur will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, steady presence, and willingness to help anyone in need. Whether answering the call to protect his community or spending time with those he loved, he lived a life defined by honor, humility, and service. Though his earthly watch has ended, his example of selfless service, unwavering dedication, and unconditional love will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are invited to Arthur’s viewing on Friday, July 10th from 10:00 – 11:00  AM at the Bell-Hennessy Funeral Home, 420 S. Main St. Williamstown. Interment will follow at Janvier Cemetery.
