Washington Township Man Charged with Possession of Child Sexual Abuse/Exploitation Materials

WOODBURY, N.J. – A Washington Township (Gloucester) man was arrested and charged with possession of child sexual abuse or exploitation materials (CSAEM), Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns announced. James Adams, 50, was charged by criminal complaint with Endangering the Welfare of a Child -Distribution of CSAEM, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)(5)(a)(i), a second-degree crime, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child-Possession of CSAEM, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)(5)(b)(iii), a third-degree crime. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in New Jersey Superior Court on June 27, 2025. According to documents filed in this case: On Thursday, June 26, 2025, detectives from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office’s High Tech Crimes Unit and the Washington Township Police Department executed a search warrant at Adams’s Washington Township residence. The search warrant followed the review of social media messages that contained CSAEM that were traced back to Adams’s residence. The search discovered multiple electronic devices allegedly belonging to Adams, including a device of the same make and model that was linked to the social media messages that contained CSAEM. Adams also gave a statement to detectives admitting to receiving CSAEM over social media. Adams is a teacher at Dr. William Mennies Elementary School in Vineland, New Jersey. Adams was processed and lodged in the Salem County Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.

The maximum fine is$150,000. The maximum term of incarceration for a third-degree crime is five years. The maximum fine is $15,000. The State is represented by Assistant Prosecutor Bryant Flowers. Prosecutor Johns also thanked the Washington Township Police Department, under the direction of Chief Patrick Gurcsik, for their assistance in the investigation. The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
