ROY JACK BALDWIN, JR. – Obituary
Roy Jack Baldwin, Jr. of Porchtown on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Age 94. An amazing man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Roy had a zest for life, always looking for adventure. At 75, he went skydiving as part of his bucket list. At 76, he and his family went to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Two years later, the same group traveled together to Alaska. When he was 88, Roy resumed his karate classes and achieved a 2nd-degree black belt while being an instructor. He was still riding his Harley Davidson Sportster when he was 90. At the age of 92, Roy was still working every day, exercising, and swimming laps (naked) in his pond in the woods. He was also jogging around the pond.
Roy met the love of his life, RuthAnn (nee Shiels),at Antlers Bar when he went in for a beer while on a weekend leave. He had his uniform on and caught her eye. They just celebrated their 70th anniversary. Roy was always kissing her, grabbing her, or fissy fussing with her.
He loved to torment everyone. Roy would take the opposite point of view in any argument just for the sake of discussion. He was an excellent welder, and his work is scattered all over South Jersey. Roy took great delight in all of his children. Each one of them had to confront his stubbornness at one time or another.
Roy was born on Fries Mill Road in Franklinville and resided on Porchtown Road for 84 years. Everyone that crossed his path was a potential friend. His one true heartbreak was the loss of his son John at the age of 22.
He will be heartbreakingly missed by his wife RuthAnn (Shiels), his sister Ellenora Herrschaft (Peter). His children Roy III (Tina), Lillian Kerr (Bob), Keith (Pam), Bill (Christine). 8 grandchildren. 14 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, and adopted friends as family.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Roy’s life on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Franklinville VFW Post 2071, 2179 Delsea Drive, Franklinville, NJ 08322.
