Quinton E. Simkins, Jr. – Obituary
October 28, 1943 – September 15, 2020
Quinton Eugene “Gene” Simkins, Jr., went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, age 76. Husband of 55 years to his high school sweetheart, Janice (Fries). Devoted father to Robert Andrew (deceased 1988), daughter, Debra Paredes (Allan), loving hands-on grandfather to Amanda Martinez (Jose), Melody Torres (Gabriel), Marilyn, Melinda and Allan Paredes, Jr., and great-grandchildren Nikolas, McKayla, Elizabeth and Lillian. Dear brother of his identical twin, John “Jack” Simkins, George “Bernie” Simkins and Elizabeth Massari (Bill). Beloved son of the late Quinton E. Simkins, Sr. and Elizabeth (Taylor) Simkins.
Born in Woodbury, Gene lived in Franklinville all his life. He graduated from Delsea High School and attended Culver Stockton College on a football scholarship. He worked most of his life as a Lab Technician at DuPont in Deepwater before taking early retirement. Gene enjoyed participating in sports his entire life: Little League, high school football, baseball and track, fishing, running marathons, and in later years, he became an avid golfer, usually accompanied by his twin brother, Jack.
Gene had a generous, mercy heart and the gift of evangelism. He spent several years traveling to prisons with the Bill Glass Prison Ministry where he enjoyed sharing the gospel with those behind bars. His love for the Lord and God’s Word grew stronger through his later years. He spent hours in the night studying his Bible and praying for those who needed it. He had a humble heart, but was very generous with his hugs.
Gene’s favorite times were spent with his grandchildren. He loved them dearly and demonstrated that love in very obvious ways, driving them to and from school for many years, teaching them to drive, giving them their first cars, taking them on numerous trips to the beach, and always lavishing them with hugs. Knowing he didn’t have much more time with them, he encouraged them to make the Lord Jesus Christ first in their lives. That was the legacy he wanted to leave with them.
Gene will be missed more than we can say, but we’re so thankful we have a wonderful reunion awaiting us in heaven.
