PHYLLIS JEAN HUCK – Obituary

Phyllis Jean Huck (nee Summers), 85, of Malaga, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.  She was the beloved wife of Edward Fredrick Huck, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage. Phyllis was the devoted mother of David Huck and Diana Spatafore (late Michael), and the cherished grandmother of Alexis Tarpy (Joe), Kevin Huck, Corey Huck, Janelle Huck, Erica Schofield (Tommy), and Aaron Spatafore. She is also survived by her siblings, Betty Dietz (late John), Larry Summers (Karen), and Gerald Summers, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, the late Samuel Lovel and Lena Grace (nee Shafer) Summers.

Born on October 2, 1940, in Hazelton, WV, Phyllis was raised in Bruceton Mills, WV, and was a 1958 graduate of Bruceton High School in Preston County, WV.  After high school, with employment opportunities scarce in the coal-mining region, she made the courageous decision to move to Vineland, NJ, to live with her aunt and uncle.  There she found work at Kimble Glass, unknowingly setting the stage for the most meaningful chapter of her life—meeting Ed, who would later become her husband.   Phyllis worked diligently as a lathe operator for the Kimble Glass Company from 1960 until her retirement in 1998, dedicating 38 years of service to the company.  The couple would marry in 1961 and live briefly in Vineland before moving to Malaga, the community she called home for the past 60 years.

In retirement, Phyllis and Ed embraced adventure, embarking on a memorable three-month cross-country journey in their RV.  Numerous other travel adventures took them from the scenic beauty of Canada and Nova Scotia to the awe-inspiring landscapes of Yellowstone, and through numerous states as far south as Georgia and as far west as Idaho.

Phyllis was gifted in the kitchen and loved to bake desserts and cookies, earning a well-deserved reputation for her exceptional cheesecake. At home, she found peace and pleasure in tending to her flower gardens, cultivating natural beauty with the same care and dedication she gave to her family and friends.  She will be remembered for her warmth, her strength, and her unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her presence leaves a lasting imprint on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312.  Funeral Service on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.  Interment Cedar Green Cemetery, Clayton.  Sign the guestbook and send condolences at BarclayFuneralHome.net.
