PAUL ROBERT SEAVY, SR. – Obituary

Paul Robert Seavy, Sr., M/Sgt Ret USMC, passed away quietly at his home at Lake Gilman in Elk Township on Saturday, August 11, 2018.  He was born in Portland, NY, April 28, 1935 to Robert A. and Carole V. Seavy and was raised in Portland by his grandparents, Ernest and Roberta Seavy.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1972, specializing in Tanks, Small Arms and Recruiting.  A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in combat during the Tet offensive on the DMZ in Vietnam in 1968.  Recruiting duty brought him to South Jersey in 1964.  After retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant, he joined the Elk Township Police as a part time officer, was manager of the Mullica Hill Building Supply Company, and retired in 1989 as Truck Manager for Joel Magaziner Ford in Glassboro.
He was active in community life. He was a Webelo and Boy Scout leader, an original member of the Elk Township Neighborhood Dispute Resolution Committee, a primary member of the Gloucester County Federation of Watersheds, and member of the Elk Township Community Watch and Elk Township Senior Citizens. He was a longtime member and former president of the Lake Gilman Owner’s Board of Trustees. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League, Semper Fidelis Detachment, Wenonah; a life member of VFW Post 679, Glassboro; and the South Jersey Vietnam Veterans Association. He was the recipient of the Legion of Honor Award of The Chapel of Four Chaplains in recognition of service.
He resided at his beloved Lake Gilman for 54 years and enjoyed fourteen summers at his home in Eastham on Cape Cod MA. An honorable and kind man, he was an avid reader, loved dogs, and was happiest when helping others.
He was a devoted husband for 60 years to his cherished wife, Suzanne T. Seavy who survives him.  He is also survived by 3 children: Carol Cash (Frank), Paul, Jr.” Bob” (Cindy), and James (Dawn); 4 grandchildren: Michael Miller, Suzanne McKegney (Thomas), Taylor Seavy and Jordan Seavy; and 3 great-grandchildren: Mason Miller, Alaina and Lia McKegney; also siblings: Dawn Shiverdecker, Carl Mitchell, Jr. and Rita Finke.  He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Diane, and 2 sisters: Barbara (Wilbur) Bretz and Mary Mitchell Radney.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 11:00-12:00 at BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street Clayton, NJ, followed by the funeral service at noon.
