NATHANIEL ‘NATE’ CALVIN GREENE-Obituary
Nathaniel “Nate” Calvin Greene, age 49, on November 29, 2025, in Mullica Hill, NJ. Son of William C. and the late Diane L. (née DeGeorge) Greene. Nate is survived by his loving sister, Anna Greene—whom he delighted in tormenting—and his brother-in-law, Robert Shropshire. He leaves behind his lifelong best friend, James Newlin; his significant other, Jacqueline J. Merryfield; his cherished children, Madison Greene and Cameron Greene who were the greatest joy of his life; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Born on February 1, 1976, in Woodbury, NJ, Nate was raised in Clayton, where he formed enduring friendships and a deep connection to the community. A 1994 graduate of Clayton High School, he later attended Camden County College. Nate moved to Boston, MA for five years before returning to New Jersey living in Audubon for thirteen years before returning home to Clayton six years ago.
Nate was passionate about cars and found fulfillment working with his hands. His natural mechanical ability and dedication to his craft led him to a long and respected career in the auto repair industry, where he worked as both a mechanic and service manager. He was known for his problem-solving skills, strong work ethic, and the pride he took in helping others get safely back on the road.
An adventurous spirit, Nate was once a diver with the South Jersey Search and Rescue Team out of Audubon, bravely assisting in community rescue operations. He enjoyed bowling in a league for two years, loved catching waves while surfing, and took to the slopes whenever he had the chance to snowboard. Music was a tremendous part of his life, and he appreciated all genres, finding joy, comfort, and expression in each.
Nate adored his pets and spoiled them endlessly. Despite his love for adventure, he was happiest at home with his family, where he felt peace and completeness. With his easygoing nature, free spirit, and love for life, he embodied the essence of a modern-day hippie—kindhearted, open-minded, and unapologetically himself.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312. The Celebration of Life will begin at 7:00 PM. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Sign the guestbook and send condolences at BarclayFuneralHome.net.
