MONROE STALKING CONVICTION

Bruce V. Davis age 48,  of Glassboro was found guilty by a Gloucester County jury on Tuesday  (3/27) of stalking a Monroe Township woman he didn’t know, who testified he reappeared at  her house  unwanted several times and sent her unsolicited e-mail messages after he was given water he asked her for in September 2016. Davis committed the offense with a course of conduct that instilled fear, Senior Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Dana Anton told the jury. He became fixated and failed to respect boundaries between himself and a stranger, she said.

The woman testified Davis came to her house in a rental truck a few times a week for two or three weeks, stopped when warned by police, then reappeared in February 2017. She had given him her e-mail address because he offered a work opportunity, but it did not interest her, she said. She was fearful because Davis was much bigger than her, she had two young children and she did not know what he was capable of, she testified. Her boyfriend also testified, saying he had a September 2016 confrontation with Davis.

Davis testified, claiming he was only thankful for the woman’s kindness and minimizing his contacts with her. He said his throat was dry from medication when he asked for water. Stalking is a fourth-degree crime with a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison. Davis has been jailed since his arrest in March 2017. He will receive credit for that incarceration when sentenced. Superior Court Judge Kevin T. Smith set sentencing for May 25. Following the jury verdict, Judge Smith also said he would sign a restraining order barring Davis from contact with the Monroe Township woman.
