MILDRED ANN ‘DOLLY’ TIERNO – Obituary

Mildred Ann “Dolly” Tierno (nee Costa) died peacefully at home with her children by her side on Tuesday, August 18, 2020.  Age 86. Wife of 45 years to the late Anthony R. Tierno.  Mother of Beverly Starling (Michael) of Ocean View, Anthony Tierno (Barbara) of Marmora, Shirley Mehaffey (late Alan) of Elmer, Cindy Ramos (Mark) of Clayton, and Robert Tierno (Kristen) of Glassboro.  Grandmother of Michael Starling (Leah), Jaime Doto (Jeff), Anthony Joseph “A. J.” Tierno (Kate), Bridget Ramer (Jared), Mark Ramos (Amanda Jacobs), Angela Mills (Brian), Austin Ramos, Mark Tierno, and Robert Tierno.  Great-grandmother of Hanna, Madison, Kayla, Caden, Grace, Kai, Zoe, Michael, Mia, Myles, Ava, Tony, Cody, and Declan.  Sister of Charles Costa and the late Anna Gates, Joseph “Pat” Costa, Rose Kohansky, Angie McClintock, Augustine Costa, and Anthony Costa.  Aunt to many nieces and nephews.  Daughter of the late Joseph & Millie (nee Conto) Costa.

Born and raised in Hardingville, Dolly has been a resident of Glassboro since 1952.  She worked 24 years for the Glassboro McDonalds where she was known as “Dolly with the bow” retiring as Manager in 1995.  Dolly was a longtime active parishioner of Saint Bridget RC Church.  She liked to read, enjoyed bingo throughout her life, and, in her younger years, visited the casinos.  Dolly loved birds, especially cardinals, and recently had taken up feeding the neighborhood groundhog and skunk.  She was a great cake baker and was known for her delicious pumpkin pie.  Family was her world, and she was devoted to them.  Holidays together, especially Christmas Dinner, were incredibly important to her. Dolly loved to get together with her kids to play games like Yahtzee and poker.  When her sisters were alive, they regularly enjoyed wine and cheese while playing cards on Saturdays.  Later, many Sundays were spent playing cards with family.

Services are private at the convenience of the family under the direction of the
