KENNETH JAMES CHESTER – Obituary

Kenneth James Chester passed away peacefully, with his loving wife by his side, on March 6, 2026, in Williamstown, NJ, at the age of 69. Ken leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories. He was a devoted husband and a proud and loving father and grandfather who found great joy in spending time with his family.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Ken was the son of the late William E. and Anna E. (nee Murray) Chester. He attended South Philadelphia High School, where he developed the strong work ethic and practical skills that would guide him throughout his life.

Ken began his career immediately after high school as a stagehand at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, a position he held for three years. He then spent 17 years as a machinist at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard before moving into management with Pep Boys at various South Jersey locations for five years. Ken concluded his professional career at Rowan University, serving in the Facilities and Maintenance Department for 15 years until his retirement on February 2, 2022.

A man of many interests, Ken had a lifelong passion for working on cars and motorcycles. He could often be found in his garage, happily tinkering and repairing his vehicles, taking pride in every project. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Saint Catherine of Siena Council, reflecting his commitment to community and service.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Anna M. (nee Potts) Chester, whom he married in 1989 after sharing life together since 1981. He is also survived by his four children: AnneMarie Homeyer (Kenneth) of Pitman, Genevieve Mayhugh (Susan) of Tennessee, Joan Digh (Ralph) of Tennessee, and Kenneth Chester of Pennsylvania; as well as eleven cherished grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, William E. Chester.

Ken will be remembered for his caring heart, his unwavering dedication to those he loved, and the many moments of laughter and wisdom he shared. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 351 N. Delsea Drive, Clayton, NJ 08312. Service to begin at 11:00 AM with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Berlin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kenneth to Trinity United Methodist Church, 351 N.
