DANIEL GLAUDEL – Obituary
Daniel Glaudel of Clayton New Jersey passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Dan is the father of Christina Glaudel Bahrt (Wesley) and grandfather of Lilliana and Annabelle of Windsor, PA. Father of Heidi Glaudel of Virginia Beach, VA. Siblings: Vicki (Steve) Esmacher, Stephen (Lorrie) Glaudel, Annette Glaudel, and Julie Glaudel, and many nieces and nephews.
Dan is remembered for his extraordinary musical talent, love of opera, and his dedication to his students. He is cherished for his unforgettable sense of humor, ability to live a humble life, and how he valued his family and friendships. He was a movie and trivia buff, a Philadelphia Eagles and NFL enthusiast.
Dan graduated from Temple University in voice / opera and music education. He also studied at Wichita State University, the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and the Institute for Dramatic Voices. Daniel Glaudel has been performing in the tri-state area and across the United States as an opera singer and orchestral soloist with over seventy leading bass roles to his credit. He was frequently singled out for his impressive bass voice and intense character portrayals. Dan performed with many companies including Seattle Opera, State Repertory Opera of New Jersey, Amato Opera, Amici Opera, Opera Northeast, Wichita Opera, Lancaster Opera, Hidden Valley Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Hollybush Opera, Elysium Concert Opera, Trinity Opera, Tabor Music Festival, Piccolo Opera, Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, Opera Seabrook, Delphi Opera, Main Line Opera Guild, PhilAria Vocal Quartet.
His operatic roles include Rocco in Fidelio, Daland in Der Fliegende Holländer, Sarastro in The Magic Flute, Fafner in Siegfried, Landgraf in Tannhäuser, König Marke in Tristan und Isolde, Hunding in Die Walküre, Mephistopheles in Faust, Don Silva in Ernani, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Ramfis in Aïda. Guardiano in La Forza del Destino, Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Zaccaria in Nabucco, Fiesco in Simon Boccanegra, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Banco in Macbeth, Ferrando in Il Trovatore, Colline in La Bohéme, Filippo Il and the Grand Inquisitor in Don Carlo, Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Gessler in Guillaume Tell, and Lodovico in Otello. He has also sung the title role, Haroun-al-Rashid, in the world premiere of Louis Scarmolin’s “The Caliph” and Duca D’Arcos in the Nordi American premiere of “Salvator Rosa” (Gomes).
Dan has performed as a soloist with the Bay Atlantic Symphony, the Jackson Symphony, the Harrisburg Symphony, the Olney Symphony, the Lansdowne Symphony, the Northeast Oratorio Society, the Bucks County Chorus and Orchestra, the South Jersy Chorus and Orchestra, the Chestnut Hill Orchestra, and the Pennypack Chamber Orchestra. Dan also was a part of the Jack Detra Quartet.
In addition, Dan is a noted jazz composer, arranger, and conductor. Dan blended his unique style of composition with hundreds of arrangements of popular songs, creating a musical sound which has been both familiar and innovative. His own compositions are hauntingly beautiful with rich harmonic textures and unforgettable lyrics.
Dan has also spent many years sharing his talents as a musical instructor at many local high schools and recently at a school in Mullica Hill. He continued private voice and instrument instruction from his home after leaving formal in-school teaching.
