ARREST MADE IN CLAYTON ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

On September 28, 2020 at 5:14 pm, the Clayton Borough Police Department was dispatched to 32 N. Delsea Drive for the report of a victim who had sustained serious injuries. After being transported to Cooper Hospital, it was discovered that the victim, 48-year old David Cardonick of the same address,had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
Upon confirming the nature of Cardonick’s injury, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit worked closely with Clayton PD to aggressively investigate the shooting incident, gathering key evidence, leading to the arrest of the following individuals:
Victor A. Kaganzey, age 20, Glassboro, NJ
Christopher D. Velez, age 21, Glassboro, NJ
Charges for both are as follows:2C:2-6C(1)(B) Accomplice to Another in Attempted Murder2C:39-5B(1) Possession of a Weapon2C:39-4A(1) Unlawful Possession of Weapon2C:5-1A(1) Criminal Attempt MurderBoth defendants are detained pending further court action.

Agencies assisting with this investigation included the Monroe, Glassboro, and Bridgeton Police Departments, the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office and the Gloucester County SWAT Team.
