Evelyn Worley passed away on February 5, 2018, at age 90. She was born on January 11, 1928, at home in the Gassaway Community, near Woodbury, Cannon County, TN. Her parents were the late Walter Gray Gassaway and Dessie Brown (Higgins) Gassaway. Evelyn had five siblings who preceded her in death: Robert White, Thomas, Kenneth Gray, Leatrice (Brewington) and Earl. Evelyn was proud of her family and Tennessee heritage and often spoke highly of her family and childhood. She was educated at the Gassaway School and found the Lord at the Gassaway Church of Christ.
Evelyn Worley married her loving husband Richard Lee Worley, in 1944, and they were married for 58 years until his death, in 2003, at age 82. They had four sons: Dwight, Roger (deceased 2007), Richard Jr., and Daniel. They also loved and enjoyed their nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Richard Sr. was born on June 20, 1920, in Leicester, Buncombe County near Ashville, NC. He was a WWII veteran serving in the European and Pacific-Asia Theaters. After the War they moved to Salem, NJ, in 1945, and subsequently, to Star Cross, Franklin Township, Gloucester County, NJ. where they raised their family.
Evelyn worked as a Home Care Aide, Visiting Nurses Association, NJ after their sons were grown. Richard Sr. worked 40 years as an equipment operator, Operating Engineers Local 825 in Newark, NJ.
Following a Christian service Evelyn Worley was interred on February 16, 2018, at the Hillcrest Memorial Park, Washington Township, Sewell, NJ in the veteran’s section with her husband.
