Wanza L. Linney, age 77, died July 2, 2021.
Wanza Lee Brown Linney was born in Hopewell, VA, on July 5th, 1943. She was the fifth child of Thomas and Teruthia Brown. As a youth, Wanza joined Little Wheel of Hope Baptist Church, where she served as an usher until she graduated from Artesia High School in 1962. She left North Carolina and moved to NY, where she met and married the love of her life, Atwell N. Linney. Their union produced two children Nathaniel and Erica Linney. Wanza was also blessed with a bonus son Leroy Henderson.
Atwell and Wanza were 30-year residents of Elk Township and very active members of the Franklinville United Methodist Church. They were married 36 years when he died in 2001. Upon his death, she moved to Memphis, TN, where she: enjoyed watching her grandchildren (Taylor, Natalie & Brooke) grow up, playing and traveling with her bowling league, and serving as the treasurer for the Cummings Street Baptist Church Missionary group.
Wanza never met a stranger; her thousand-watt smile and easy-going personality were inviting to all who knew her. When in her presence, you could expect two things: to laugh and to hear a good story. Although she is no longer here, she lives on in those left behind:
Her son and daughter-in-law- Nathaniel and Tracye Linney of Memphis, TN; Her Daughter Erica Linney of Virginia Beach, VA Her son Leroy Henderson of Richmond, VA Her beloved sister, Mazell Turner of Hallsboro, NC, six granddaughters, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation and service were held on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at the Serenity Funeral Home, 1638 Sycamore View Road, Memphis, TN 38134.
