Virginia Hiles of Clayton on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Age 92. Wife of the late Lewis Clark Hiles. Mother of Jean Ann Jones, Peggy Lee Jarrell (Matt Quigley), Bernice Annie Chambers, and the late Patsy Marie Crace and Lewis Charles Hiles. Grandmother of James Crace, Harry Crace, Carl Crace, Connie Crace, Benny Pezzella, Lewis Pezzella, Ezekiel E. Jones, Ricky Jarrell, Danny Jarrell, Christine Jarrell, Nicole Jarrell, Ronnie Chambers, and Crystal Chambers. Great-grandmother to many, many. Sister of Bertha Hoffman and the late Robert Liester, Elizabeth Hinton, Walter Hoffman, John Hoffman, and Harold Hoffman. Daughter of the late Albert & Annie (nee Brown) Hoffman.
Born in Clayton, Virginia was raised briefly in Franklinville before returning to Clayton where she has been a resident for the 80+ years. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casinos, and playing lottery and scratch-off tickets. Virginia enjoyed going out to eat, especially at Five Points (later Seven Star) Diner and shopping, especially for shoes. She enjoyed listening to Bluegrass Gospel music and to music by Connie Francis, Loretta Lynn, and Willie Nelson. Virginia also had a great voice and loved to sing. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Clayton and a member of the choir. Over the years, Virginia taught a lot of people how to drive. The number one thing she enjoyed doing was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and other family. She was head of five generations and will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312 with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM.
