TRAFFIC ADVISORY – Route 42 (5/1/23)

Route 42 overnight lane closures beginning this week as a pavement preservation project begins in Gloucester County

At least one lane of traffic will be maintained

(Trenton) – Varying lane closures on Route 42 are scheduled to begin tonight and will be in place over the next several weeks between Black Horse Pike/Route 168/Atlantic City Expressway in Washington and Route 55 in Deptford, Gloucester County.

Beginning at 8 p.m. today, Monday, May 1 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, May 2, and continuing Monday through Thursday nights at the same times over the next several weeks, varying lanes on Route 42 will be closed between Black Horse Pike/Route 168/Atlantic City Expressway in Washington and Route 55 in Deptford. The lane closures are necessary for pavement repairs. Work is expected to start on Route 42 northbound and will move to Route 42 southbound once pavement repairs have been completed on the northbound side of the roadway. The lane closures are expected to begin in the left lane and move to the right as work progresses in both directions of Route 42. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained overnight during construction. Motorists are advised to slow down, expect delays and use caution while driving through the work zone.

This work is part of a $13.5 million federally-funded project that will preserve approximately six miles of pavement using High Performance Thin Overlay (HPTO) on Route 42 between Black Horse Pike/Route 168/Atlantic City Expressway in Washington, Gloucester County through Gloucester Township, Camden County to Route 55 in Deptford, Gloucester County. This project includes paving all ramps within the project limits and will further improve driving conditions on Route 42 by adding rumble strips, and new signage to the roadway. This project is expected to be completed in fall 2023.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
