Main Road/CR 555 closed this morning (3/18/2024) as Route 40 intersection project begins in Franklin, Gloucester County
****Traffic will be detoured for approximately two months
(Trenton) – Main Road/CR 555 between Route 40 and Weymouth Road was closed and detoured this morning (3/18/2024) in both directions as an intersection improvement project begins in Franklin Township, Gloucester County.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, March 18, Main Road/CR 555 was closed and detoured in both directions between Route 40 and Weymouth Road. The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately two months and is necessary to install curb and begin intersection reconstruction. Access will be maintained for residents. The following detour will be in place through May 2024:
Main Road/CR 555 northbound detour:
- Traffic on Main Road/CR 555 northbound will be directed to turn right onto Weymouth Road/CR 690 eastbound
- Turn left onto South Brewster Road/CR 672 northbound
- Turn left onto Route 40/Harding Highway westbound, back to Main Road/CR 555
Main Road/CR 555 southbound detour:
- Traffic on Main Road/CR 555 southbound will be directed to turn left onto Route 40/Harding Highway eastbound
- Turn right onto South Brewster Road/CR 672 southbound
- Turn right onto Weymouth Road/CR 690 westbound, back to Main Road/CR 555
The work is part of a $2.2 million federally funded project to enhance safety and improve the operation of the signalized intersection of Route 40 and Main Road/CR 555 in Franklin Township, Gloucester County. Improvements include adding right turn ramps from Main Road/CR 555 to Route 40, as well as repaving and raising the intersection by nearly two feet. The traffic signals will be replaced; new concrete median islands will be installed; ADA-compliant curb ramps and sidewalks will be constructed; and upgrades will be made to drainage inlets. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2024.
