TEN YEAR OLD CAUSES FALSE ALARM THAT THREATENED SCHOOL SAFETY
A ten year old student from Franklin Township school district (Gloucester County) was charged this morning with causing a false public alarm after posting a disturbing video on Tik Tok. On Wednesday, September 18th at around 7:55 AM Franklin Township Police Department(Gloucester County) was notified by the Franklin Township School District that a disturbing video of a school in their district was circulating on social media. This video was determined to be a potential threat by police, and in conjunction with the school district, all school buildings operated their ‘safety protocols.’
Police also alerted Delsea Regional School District who posted a press release stating that, “As a precaution, all schools in their District were placed on a ‘secure.’ A ‘secure’ means a ‘heightened awareness’ of the building’s exterior while maintaining normal operations inside.
Franklin Township Police immediately deployed all resources to each of the schools in order to secure a perimeter as students entered the buildings. Officers remained on the scene during the duration of the investigation until the school was given the okay to lift their safety protocols.
Franklin Twp. Police issued a press release and stated that due to the quick response from the school districts in notifying them of the threat and the immediate response by police and school security, the buildings were properly secured within minutes.
Detectives from the Franklin Township Police were able to identify the suspect who posted the video, in less than a half an hour of the threat. The suspect was identified as 10-year-old student from Franklinville who is currently enrolled within the school district. That student was immediately removed from the school and transported to the Franklin Township Police Department for further investigation. At the completion of the investigation, the juvenile was charged with causing a false public alarm.
