Sherrard Jordan Dixon of Clayton on Friday, November 25, 2022. Age 68. Son of the late Daniel Iverson & Nina Mary (nee Crowningshield) Dixon. Brother of Daniel Dixon (Arlene) of Leesburg, FL. Cousin of Rudy Short (Lois) and numerous other cousins. Friend and self-adopted brother of the late Timothy Ambrosius and his surviving wife Terri Ann Ambrosius of Clayton. Uncle to Nick Ambrosius (Emma Daly), Emily Coulter (Daniel), and Katherine Estberg (Ted). Great-uncle to Caroline Ambrosius, Adeline Coulter, Ava Coulter, and Benjamin Estberg. Also survived by the extended Ambrosius family who he was very much a part of.
Born in Woodbury and raised in National Park, Sherrard was a longtime resident of Pitman before moving to Clayton 3 years ago. He was a 1972 graduate of Gateway Regional High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English from Stockton University. One of Sherrard’s early jobs was at K-Mart; it was here that he met Tim Ambrosius and a lifelong friendship began. He later worked a number of years for Office Outfitters in Vineland, an Ambrosius family business and eventually became an unofficial member of the family. Most recently, Sherrard worked for 20+ years as a Postal Service Clerk for the USPS initially in Sewell and most recently in Clayton until his retirement in 2021.
Sherrard enjoyed photography and loved watching National Geographic and the Discovery Channel. He loved the social interaction with people from the community that his job provided. Sherrard often vacationed with his dear friends Tim, Terri, and their family and enjoyed many holidays with the extended Ambrosius family.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312.
