Corey Grier, age 21, of Woodbury, was arrested on Monday, January 28th, and charged with first-degree Felony Murder, first-degree Robbery, second-degree Burglary, third-degree Theft, and second-degree Conspiracy to commit Robbery. These charges are stemming from Grier’s involvement in the death of 32-year-old Misael Ruiz Garcia of Woodbury, Gloucester County Prosecutor Charles “Chuck” Fiore announced on Wednesday (1/30). Grier is being held in Salem County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutor Fiore noted that “this additional arrest is a direct result of intensive investigative work which has been ongoing without pause since the murder of Mr. Garcia. The GCPO and partner agencies, including the Woodbury City Police Department, have been seamless in their cooperative efforts, collecting key evidence and facts which led to Monday’s apprehension and arrest of Corey Grier.”
On August 11, 2018 approximately 11:33 pm, Woodbury City Police officers were dispatched to 53B E. Centre Street, Woodbury for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, responding officers discovered Mr. Garcia’s body outside his residence. Wyatt Oswald, age 20, a factory worker of Paulsboro was arrested and charged Monday, August 13, 2018, with the shooting death of 32-year-old Misael Ruiz Garcia of Woodbury. Oswald was charged by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office with first-degree murder; first-degree robbery; second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon; third-degree theft; and third-degree burglary. He is being held in Salem County Correctional Facility.
An autopsy performed by Gloucester County Medical Examiner Dr. Gerald Feigin on August 12, 2018, concluded that Mr. Garcia’s death was caused by a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was determined to be homicide. Officers of the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshal’s Service New York-New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force took Oswald into custody without incident in Gloucester City, New Jersey.
