SARAH ELIZABETH ‘BETTY’ ESGRO – Obituary

Sarah Elizabeth “Betty” Esgro (nee Ramage) of Franklinville on Monday, February 5, 2018.  Age 88.  Mother of Marie I. Adgie and her husband Matthew N. Adgie of Franklinville.  Grandmother of Margo (nee Adgie) Carr and her husband Matthew and Marie (nee Adgie) Wrigley and her husband Elwood.  Great-grandmother of Mia Marie Wrigley, Holden Elwood Wrigley, and Gavin Oliver Carr.  Sister of the late Joseph and Pasquale Ciminera.  Daughter of Alowishus and Marie (nee Tramentano) Ramage.  Niece of her late Aunt Jennie and Uncle Pat Ciminera, now deceased who raised her.  Also survived by Dorothy Bobo, a good friend who she loved as a daughter along with her son Robert.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in the Southwest Philadelphia area, Betty lived in Delaware County for 20 years and still owns a duplex there.  She started out as a Bell Telephone Operator, then had her hand as an entrepreneur.  She first had a water ice business, then moved on to a bar, restaurant, and rooms in Balley, PA on Route 100 call Balley Hotel.  She served over 100 lunches a day from a local factory.  Best steaks and lobster in town.
Then she had a breakfast place in Cape May, NJ that she leased for 5 years.  It was on Beach & Perry Streets up from Congress Hall.  Health reasons stopped her from buying this property.  Once she felt better, she took a ride to Jersey Shore and purchased the Margo on 4th & Atlantic in Ocean City, NJ.  It had rooms, apartments, a restaurant, and bike rentals.  Then she sold it for a price she could not refuse.  She was into her sixties by now.  She took a break for a year or so but was bored so she landed a job with Fitzgerald Hospital as a telephone operator.  It was just a part time job.  She started at age 62 and retired at age 80 in September of 2010.
She has lived with her daughter for 5 years after two falls who loved having her in her life and sharing life together.  She will be missed by her wonderful son-in-law Matthew who loved her very much.  He took care of Betty along with his grandchildren on a daily basis.  Marie, her daughter, will miss her tremendously.  Her mom inspired her to be who she is today.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday, February 9, 2018, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Saint Catherine of Siena RC Church, 49 W. North Street, Clayton, NJ 08312.  Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter, 1200 N. Delsea Drive, Clayton, NJ 08312.  Arrangements under the direction of the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME.  Sign the guestbook and send condolences at BarclayFuneralHome.net.
