RUTH DRUSILLA SHORT- Obituary
Ruth Drusilla Short (nee Lickfield) of Malaga on Thursday, April 26, 2018. Age 91. Husband of 43 years to the late William H. Short. Mother of John W. Short and his wife Donna of Malaga. Grandmother of Patrick and Brittany. Sister of eight. Daughter of the late John and Violet (nee Bisbing) Lickfield. Also survived by her casino buddy, Alice Magnuson.
Born December 28, 1926, and raised in Moorestown, Ruth has been a resident of Franklin Township since 1957. She was a 1944 graduate of Moorestown High School and became a nurse after attending Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing. Ruth later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing from Trenton State College. She was a school nurse for the Township of Franklin Public Schools from 1958 to 1972 before becoming a school social worker for the township and the Delsea Regional High School until her retirement in 1998.
Faith was an important part of Ruth’s life, and she was a steady attendee at Malaga Pentecostal Assembly, later known as the Malaga Assembly of God, and currently the Hope Assembly of God in Malaga. She loved politics and was very active in her community and very much a pioneer. Ruth was the first female baseball coach in Franklin Township and the first female School Board President at Delsea Regional High School. She also loved sports, especially the Phillies, Redskins, and swimming. An avid bowler, Ruth enjoyed numerous bowling trips around the country. She liked to play bingo, but she loved the casinos. A lunch outing with Alice often ended up in Atlantic City. Her family fondly recalls that Ruth loved to befriend and take under her wing those that didn’t quite fit in, especially kids and little ones. They also remember Ruth photobombing before it was a thing.
