ROLAND ANDREW RUPP – Obituary

Roland Andrew Rupp, 71, of Franklin Township, NJ, passed away on September 22, 2024, at
home. He is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine Rupp (nee Tulk), with whom he shared
48 years of marriage. He was the loving and proud father of Andrew Rupp and Adam Rupp.
He is also survived by his brothers Dennis Rupp and Bryan Rupp, cousins, nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Anna Rupp (nee Breininger), and his father
Ira Rupp.
Roland was born on August 9, 1953, in Allentown, PA. He graduated from Northwestern
Lehigh High School in 1971, and then from Widener College with a BA in History (and a
Minor in Pinochle) in 1976. He spent many happy years in the construction industry, first as
a carpenter and later as a self-taught expert in computer programming related to that
industry. Roland had many good times and memorable adventures as a member of Cub
Scout Pack 72, Boy Scout Troop 72, and Explorer Post 72 of Fogelsville, PA where he made
many life-long friends. When his older son Andrew reached Scouting age, it was natural
that he and Roland would join Pack 21 in Franklinville, and soon Roland was Cub Master, a
position he held until long after younger son Adam had progressed to Boy Scout Troop 21.
Roland was one of the adult leaders on many camping trips with his sons and the other
pack and troop members.
When Roland retired, he moved part time to the World of Warcraft, where he completed
many quests and met other warriors from around the world. When Catherine retired,
Roland went back to work on deferred home improvement projects, although there was still
time for WOW. The couple also went on many enjoyable trips by plane, train, automobile,
canal boat and cruise ship. When they weren’t travelling, Roland enjoyed the Water
Exercise class at the Vineland YMCA.
Unfortunately, Roland’s time was cut short by colon cancer which was undiscovered until
too late. Roland and his family appeal to everyone who reads this to follow their doctor’s
recommendation and have that colonoscopy. No public services are planned. Donations
may be made in Roland’s memory to Habitat for Humanity, or the Vineland YMCA.
