ROBERT JOSEPH SORENSON, JR. – Obituary

Robert Joseph Sorenson, Jr., age 77, on April 7, 2026, in Mullica Hill, New Jersey. He was the devoted husband of the late Judith “Judy” Margaret (née Metzger) Sorenson, whom he married in August 1981 in Elk Township; they shared 21 years of marriage before her passing in 2002. Loving father to Jennifer “Jen” Sorenson (Don), Jim Allaband, Deanna Allaband, and Rob Allaband. Proud grandfather to Amanda Keener (Anthony), Destiny Spasari (Nick), Joy Allaband (Adrian), and DJ Getsinger, and a cherished great-grandfather to Nicholas, Claire, Colin, Lily, and Otis. Caring brother to Kathleen Porch (the late Chally), Russell Sorenson (the late Sharon), Patricia “Patty” Petsch, Mary Clark (the late Matt), Dominick Madden (Terri), and Michele Williams (Al). He was predeceased by his parents, Mary “Dottie” (née Murray) and Michael Madden. Bob was also a devoted uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Born on March 13, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bob was raised in Philadelphia for 10 years before moving to Elk Township, where he later graduated from Delsea Regional High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for five years as a destroyer gunner’s mate during the Vietnam War. Known for his courage and selflessness, he once saved a commanding officer who was attempting to take his own life. Bob’s determination was evident even before his service began—though initially underweight, he volunteered, committed himself to a weight plan, and ultimately embarked on a military journey filled with remarkable experiences and stories.

Bob made his home in Franklinville, New Jersey, where he resided for 44 years. He dedicated much of his professional life to Gloucester County Parks and Recreation. Bob began his career as a park ranger and later advancing to the role of Assistant Supervisor, where he served for many years with dedication and pride.

In his personal life, Bob found great joy in simple pleasures. He loved spending time on the water, fishing from a boat with friends and family. Trips to the casino to play the slots with his “partner in crime” and brother Russ were among his favorite pastimes. Above all, Bob treasured time spent with his family, happiest when everyone was together. He also took great pride in maintaining his home, especially enjoying mowing his lawn—an activity that brought him genuine peace and satisfaction.

Robert Joseph Sorenson, Jr. will be remembered for his strength, devotion to family, and the joy he found in life’s everyday moments. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
