RAYMOND R. MARTIN- Obituary
Raymond R. Martin, 76, of Daretown, NJ passed away on Tuesday afternoon September 27, 2022 at the Inspira Hospital – Elmer Division. Ray was born & raised in Philadelphia prior to moving to Westville. He was a longtime resident of Franklinville prior to moving to Daretown in 2020. He was the son of the late Raymond R. Martin & “Pauline” Diaz (nee “Trapuzzano”). He was also preceded in death by his stepbrother Raymond Russell Martin, Jr.
Ray attended Catholic Woodbury High School where he served in the ROTC and the Reserves. After graduating he entered the U.S. Navy and served for 7 yrs in Navy Seals, during the Vietnam War. Before retiring with 34 yrs of service, Ray was employed 1st with Bell Telephone & later Verizon Communications. He served as President of the Telephone Pioneers for many years and remained active until his death. He was an active member of the Gloucester County Ham Radio Club & was a member of the Pitman Masonic Lodge #197 and The American Legion and state and Local VFW. Ray was handy with his hand’s and enjoyed doing electrical & construction work. He was also an avid history & military buff.
Ray is survived by his wife of 13 yrs.; Phyllis D. (Baran), 3 children; Raymond, Michelle Martin-Edinger, Laura Martin, 2 stepchildren; Sarah & Paul Scapellato
5 grandchildren; Anthony Alfonsi, Robbie Miller, Paul Jr., Dominic & Carlo Scapellato, Sister; Paula Trapuzzano, Brother; Joe Trapuzzano, 2 brothers in-law; Mike & Dave Baran , Beloved Nephew Domenic Levy as well as several other nieces & nephews.
Relatives & friends will be received on Friday, September 30th from 12 Noon – 1:45 PM at the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Road, Vineland, NJ where his masonic funeral rites will be held at 1:45 followed by his funeral service conducted by Rabbi Bradley Bleefield. Burial will follow in the Alliance Cemetery, Norma, NJ.
A final Shabbat Shuva Minion service will be held at the Garton Road Synagogue, 612 Garton Road, Rosenhayn (Bridgeton) NJ.
All are welcome to attend at 7pm on Friday, September 30.
There will be an Open House at the home of Raymond Martin on Saturday, October 1, 2022, beginning at 11 AM. All are welcome to attend.
