PEOPLE IN TRANSITION: JANUARY WORKSHOPS
The Center for People in Transition at Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) hosts a number of empowerment, legal and financial workshops during the month of January. Unless otherwise noted, all workshops are free and open to the public. Registration is mandatory. Call 856-415-2222. You must be 18 years or older to attend.
“Resume Life Skills Workshop” — Join Nancy Howard, Human Resource Management professional, to learn how to create the perfect resume. If you already have a resume, bring it with you. If you need help getting started, call 856-468-5000, ext. 6625 for a Personal Data Form, which must be completed and returned by Monday, January 2. We will provide you with a draft resume at the beginning of the workshop. All resumes will be critiqued in an open forum. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn how to get your resume noticed and get you that interview! “Job Search Workshop” — Nancy Howard, Human Resource Management professional, is ready to get you and your up-to-date resume ready for the job search! She will cover how to conduct a job search, common mistakes made on applications and cover letters, steps to take in applying for jobs online and what to do when you get the big interview. This workshop will be held on Thursday, January 12 from 6 – 8 p.m. This workshop in sponsored by Heart of South Jersey and People in Transition.
“Navigating Child Support” — Child Support and Paternity Supervisor Gina Foster, of Gloucester County Social Services, is leading a workshop for anyone interested in establishing paternity, filing for child support or enforcing an existing court order. She will explain the child support process, your rights and what you can expect in court. The roles of family court, probation and social services will also be explored. Bring your questions. This workshop will be held on Tuesday, January 17 from 6:30 – 8 p.m.
“From New Year’s Resolutions to a New and Different Way of Thinking” — Join Sharon Roth-Lichtenfeld, Certified Professional Life Coach, to learn how to take your New Year’s resolution all the way to the finish line. Too often, people start out strong in their resolutions and then lose the momentum. In this workshop, you will learn how to keep the momentum and motivation going by training yourself to think differently. This workshop will be held on Wednesday, January 18 from 7 – 9 p.m. This workshop is sponsored by United Way of Gloucester County and People in Transition.
“Intermediate Computer Class” —Amy Charlesworth, Case Manager for People in Transition, will take your basic computer skills to the next level, with her 40-hour workshop covering intermediate Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills. The cost of the workshop is $40 for displaced homemakers and $100 for all other attendees. Both day and evening sessions are offered. Evening classes are held on Thursdays, January 19 – April 20 (no class on March 16), from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Morning classes are held Fridays, January 20 – March 10, from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
“Android 101” — Lauri Kuder, Microsoft Office Master, knows that the wide range of functions available in today’s android phones can be confusing to navigate at times. In this workshop you will explore some of the inner workings of Android smartphones. Topics will include: downloading apps, email, social media, phone security, Wi-Fi, calendar and much more. She will take you step-by-step through the features of your Android device so that you can better understand its many functions. This workshop will be held on Monday, January 23 from 6 – 9 p.m. This workshop is sponsored by Heart of South Jersey and People in Transition.
“Forgiveness – A Healing Journey” — Dr. Jennie McQuaide, Licensed Professional Counselor, will lead an eight-session workshop for individuals who have been hurt by people or events in their lives. Individuals who have been emotionally and/or physically hurt may continue to suffer many years later as a result. Learn ways to relieve the pain so you can move on with your life. Learning to forgive is an important part of the healing process. This workshop will be held on Tuesdays, January 24 – March 14 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. This workshop is sponsored by Heart of South Jersey and People in Transition.
