Paul Onder on Friday, May 27, 2022. Age 86. Husband of nearly 60 years to Eileen Alice Onder (nee Ernst). Father of Ellen A. Preston (Dietrich) of Woodbury, NJ; Edwinna A. Garber (Steve) of Colorado Springs, CO; and Stu P. Onder (Brandy) of Florida. Grandfather of Rowen Gunn (Valentine), Kimberly Ringdahl (Dustin), Marisa Garber, Liam Preston, and Remy Preston. Brother of MaryAnn Phillips of Ohio; Chuck Onder of Cresson, PA; and the late Faye Matyk, Frank Onder, Pete Onder, Michael Onder, Joseph Onder, and Steve Onder. Son of the late Michael and Annie (nee Vozniak) Onder.
Born in Snow Shoe and raised in the coal-mining town of Portage, PA, Paul was a 30-year resident of Bellmawr before moving to Franklinville 35 years ago. He proudly served two years in the U.S. Army including time overseas in Germany and Austria. Paul was a longtime employee of Hour Glass Cleaners based out of Portage, PA with numerous locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania that he serviced as a maintenance mechanic until his retirement in 1995. He worked hard to provide for his family, and throughout many of his years as a mechanic, he also worked at Sears.
Paul was an avid bowler and enjoyed square dancing with his wife Eileen for many years. Their love of square dancing took them on numerous travels including to Alaska and the Panama Canal. They also went on several cruises connected to square dancing allowing them to meet people from around the world who shared their love of square dancing. Paul loved his cat “Princess” and enjoyed camping and making stained glass art. He liked watching wrestling, football, and war movies. His family remembers him as a first-class wise-ass and bullshitter as well as a jokester.
