The start of Rowan softball’s season can be best described as inconsistent. So far Rowan have traded wins and losses to start the season, as the Profs look to really gain their footing. After a bevy of cancelled games at the start of the season, Rowan finally started their season off with a 7-0 victory over McDaniel College.
What a day it was for shortstop Carly Anderson. The senior went 3-3 with 3 RBIs and a home run. Left fielder Morgan Zane also added a big home run. Lauren Shannon pitched seven scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts.
After their blowout victory over McDaniels, Rowan found themselves on the other side of a beatdown at the hands of Christopher Newport. Patty Maye Ohanian led the Captains to a 9-0 win over the Profs, going 2-2 with a walk and 2 RBIs. Ohanian, as well as Caroline Helmer and Keely Crittenden all stole bases.
Rowan would drop two of their next three, losing to Randolph-Macon 1-0, as well as to North Carolina Wesleyan 3-1. They did defeat William Peace 5-3 to enter the Spring Games with a 2-3 record.
Entering the Spring Games, Rowan needed to figure things out fast. With a losing record, Rowan could not let the upcoming stretch of games get the better of them. They had to use the extra games upcoming in a short time period to their advantage, allowing them to quickly fix their season. If their first two games at the Spring Games are any indication, Rowan seems to have started to figure things out.
Rowan started the Spring games out with a big 10-0 victory over Southern Maine. It was another dominant performance for pitcher Lauren Shannon, who pitched five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Shannon is now 3-0 on the season with only three runs allowed. When Shannon is on the mound, the opposing team is going to have a long day. Morgan Zane hit her second longball of the season with a two run shot in the first inning.
Rowan continued their good play with a 5-4 victory over Lake Forest. Jesse DeDomenco earned her first win of the season, while also going 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Cassandra Gerard, Kelly Duffy, and Mackenzie Short also batted in runs.
