MICHAEL PAUL BACHOWSKI – Obituary

Michael Paul Bachowski, 77, of Clayton, New Jersey, on March 22, 2026, in Voorhees, New Jersey, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Theresa (née Kennelly) Bachowski, with whom he shared 54 devoted years of marriage after marrying on December 11, 1971. Caring brother of Alice Bachowski (Bob Moore) of Elmer; Ann Barker (the late Seth) of Chesilhurst; Walt Bachowski (Terri) of Clementon; and Joseph Bachowski (Jackie) of Blackwood. Michael is survived by his siblings-in-law: Matt Kennelly (Terry) of Philadelphia; Anne Kennelly of Philadelphia; Frank Kennelly (Barbara) of Trevose; Peggy Reinert (Kevin) of Philadelphia; Rose Breslin (John) of Philadelphia; Patty Kennelly of Philadelphia; and Mary Kay Mensch (Michael) of Philadelphia, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Son of the late Michael and Anna Theresa (née Allen) Bachowski.

Born on December 10, 1948, Michael was raised in Philadelphia, PA, until the age of 10, when his family moved to Lindenwold, NJ, where he lived until age 23. During those years, fate brought them back together through a chance encounter between Betty and Michael’s mother, Anna. At Betty’s request, his mother encouraged him to call her—an act that became the catalyst for a lifelong partnership. After marrying, they returned to the very same Philadelphia street where he and Betty had grown up across from one another and first knew each other as children as young as two years old. Michael and Betty went on to share approximately 20 years living on that same street before moving to Clayton, NJ, in 1992, where he remained for the rest of his life.

Michael began his career in 1968 as a mailer with the Philadelphia Bulletin and later continued his work with the Philadelphia Inquirer, dedicating over four decades to his profession before retiring in 2012. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Local 1414, Newspaper & Magazine Employees Union in Philadelphia.

Michael and Betty were inseparable throughout their lives, sharing a deep bond and countless cherished experiences. Their honeymoon to Williamsburg, Virginia, marked the beginning of a lifelong love for the area, and they returned as often as three times a year for many years. Michael was a talented artist who found joy in painting and drawing, and he had a deep appreciation for learning, particularly through reading technical books. He had a profound love for music, especially classical and rock, and found great enjoyment in exploring poetry alongside Betty, attending readings together and sharing in that creative world.

He also loved visiting the Philadelphia Art Museum, where he delighted in sharing his knowledge and passion for art with Betty. In his younger years, Michael was enthusiastic about muscle cars, often working on them alongside his father. He enjoyed drag racing and spent time racing at Atco Dragway in Waterford with his friend Jack.

Michael will be remembered for his quiet intellect, creative spirit, and, above all, his unwavering devotion to his beloved Betty. His life was one of deep connection, enduring love, and shared passions that will be treasured by all who knew him.
