Michael David Lindner, Sr.
January 23, 1939 – January 31, 2024
Michael David Lindner, Sr. (85 years old) of Strathmere, NJ passed at home surrounded by his family on January 31, 2024. Born in Atlantic City, NJ on January 23, 1939, he was the son of the late Harman & Helen Lindner.
He is survived by his loving & devoted wife of 63 years, Suzanne (nee Barclay); his four children who all reside in Pitman, Michele (Rusty) Cressman; Michael (Holly) Lindner, Jr.; Stephanie Camma (Rick Conway); Stephen Lindner. He was a proud grandfather to Robert (Sarah) Cressman, IV; Rachel (Michael) Morrison; Sean (Kaitlin) Cressman; Mark (Janine) Camma; Nicole (Patrick) Collins; Hannah Cressman; Matthew Camma; Brenna Lindner; Leah Camma; Carly Lindner; and Angelina Lindner. He was great-grandfather to Raylynn Morrison; Michael Morrison, Jr.; Amelia Camma; Sophia Cressman; and Noah Morrison. He is also survived by his sister Deborah Maestu (of Florida); and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his granddaughter Brielle Lindner; his parents Harman & Helen Lindner, his brothers, Harman Lindner and Steven Lindner all of Tennessee.
Mike grew up in Northfield and Pleasantville and attended Pleasantville High School where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and baseball earning the Charles Oserkis Memorial Award as well as earning the Atlantic County Athlete of the year in 1957. He continued his athletic career at Trenton State College where he starred as a football player. His 1959 team was inducted into TSC’s Hall of Fame. He graduated from Trenton State College in 1960, with a BA Degree and from Glassboro State College in 1968 with a Masters Degree both in Social Studies. He continued his education towards his doctorate in History at Rutgers University in 1965 – 1967.
He taught History & Social Studies starting in Clayton, NJ where he coached football, basketball & baseball; after eight years he taught at Deptford High School and coached football. He then became one of the original professors at Gloucester County College teaching Sociology, where he taught for over 50 years until he became Professor Emeritus. He was the first Basketball Coach at GCC.
He was known for being the first Sports Announcer and broadcaster for Gloucester County Channel 5, later Storer Cable and finally CN8 announcing many sporting events in Gloucester County and surrounding areas along with broadcasting the local elections.
He and his wife Suzanne have devoted their lives to their family and have done everything together over the past 63 years. They loved sports, having season tickets to the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies and Flyers. They attended their children and grandchildren’s sporting events through the younger years, high school and college taking them to many towns and many states. They went on a multitude of Cruises, they enjoyed going out to dinner at the Anchorage where they became like family, known by name, and their trips to the casinos in Atlantic City, most recently the Borgata.
Mike loved watching news and sports on tv and most recently found Youtube where his regular watching included Musical Theater (mostly Les Miserables & Phantom of the Opera), Living off the grid in Alaska, Cruising and cooking shows. Mike was known by many for his keen sense of humor. He leaves a huge legacy and will be extremely missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Monday, February 5, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312.
