MARK CHARLES GILLEN – Obituary

Mark Charles Gillen of Franklinville on Friday, February 12, 2021, after a long illness. Age 59. Son of the late Harry Charles & Doris Joan (nee Weaver) Gillen. Brother of Carol A. Owen, Michael Gillen, Roseann M. Tayvinsky (husband Robert) and the late Harry C. Gillen, Jr. and Irene C. Gillen-Brown (surviving husband Michael). Uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Born in Philadelphia where he also spent his youth, Mark has been a resident of Franklinville since 1975 and attended Delsea Regional High School. He worked a number of years for Dennis Ellena and Sons Construction in Franklinville assembling modular homes and doing roofing. Later Mark worked for Arbor Landscaping in Newfield as a landscaper and machine repair and maintenance mechanic.

Mark was a great small motor mechanic and could fix nearly anything. He liked woodworking and excelled at carpentry. Mark was a good artist and known for his excellent drawings and was a talented musician who played the guitar and banjo. He liked to cook and enjoyed slots at the casino and playing the lottery. Mark was a member of “The Recreation Club” in Vineland and loved fishing and crabbing especially in Fortescue. His sisters fondly recall how Mark was a very family-oriented man.
