JUAN PIZARRO – Obituary

Juan Pizarro, 76, passed away on December 7, 2024, in Washington Township, NJ. Born on November 13, 1948, in the vibrant city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Juan’s life was marked by his unwavering spirit and infectious zest for life.

Juan’s early years were spent under the nurturing care of his late parents, Juan and Mercedes (nee De Leon) Pizarro. He grew up alongside his siblings, Ada, the late Mario, and the late Minerva, in a household filled with love and strong family values. His academic journey culminated in 1962 when he graduated from Robinson School in San Juan, a time filled with youthful exuberance and dreams for the future.

At the tender age of 15, Juan moved to Hoboken, NJ, where he would lay down roots and build a life that was as full as it was fulfilling. It was in Hoboken that he met and married his beloved wife, the late Gloria Estelle (nee Candelaria) Pizarro. Together, they raised a family that included their children: the late Gloria Izquierdo, Juan Pizarro, Jr., the late Walter Pizarro, Enrique Pizarro, and Linda Shipman. Juan’s legacy further blossomed with the arrival of his grandchildren: Walter Pizarro, Jr., Carida Pizarro, the late Edgar Pizarro, Crystal Pizarro, Amelia Pizarro, Emily Pizarro, Louis Rogers, and Shawn Michael Rogers; and great-grandchildren Amarah Rose Cardero and Eloy Pizarro.

Juan’s life was a testament to the joy of simple pleasures and the love of family. His professional journey as a truck driver spanned decades, showcasing his dedication and work ethic until his retirement in 2016. An avid motorcyclist, Juan enjoyed the freedom of the open road and was an active member of the Hoboken M.C. His love for fishing was more than a hobby; it was a passion that saw him spend countless weekends on the Hudson River, casting lines and basking in the tranquility of nature. Juan’s athletic spirit also shone through in his love for softball, which he played with enthusiasm as an adult, reminiscent of his baseball days in his youth.

The competitive spark in Juan was further evident in his enjoyment of tennis and handball, games he often played with his children, fostering a sense of sportsmanship and family bonding. A man of many talents, Juan was also an amazing cook. With a flair for Spanish cuisine, he took great pleasure in teaching his children the art of creating delectable dishes, ensuring that his culinary legacy would be savored for generations.

Juan’s final years were spent in Monroeville, NJ, where he had lived for over a decade. His presence in the community was one of warmth and friendliness, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
