JOSEPH ‘JAY’ BRUCE JUSTICE, JR. – Obituary

Joseph “Jay” Bruce Justice Jr. age 75, of Atlanta, GA passed away on October 4, 2021. He was born on June 16, 1946, in Clayton, NJ to Bruce and Inez (Silver) Justice and graduated from Clayton High School, a member of the Class of 1964. Jay was a professor of chemistry at Emory University from 1975 to 2008 and was noted for his scholarly work at the intersection of bioanalytical chemistry and neuroscience. He skillfully applied his knowledge of analytical chemistry to further our understanding of neuroscience, psychology, and behavior. Above all else, Jay was a humble, kind, patient, and honest person who thought before he spoke and possessed a wry sense of humor. He pursued a lifelong passion for photography serving as the President of the Atlanta Photographic Society. He is survived by his sister Jane and her husband Paul Tittel and was preceded in death by his brother Mitch Justice. His two children and four grandchildren reside in Atlanta; Daughter, Lauren, with her husband Ward Bradshaw and kids Quinton and Eva and son, Nicholas, with Carissa Justice and kids Arlo and Wilder. Jay leaves behind a legacy through his students, family, and friends who experienced a wonderful professor and person in thought and action. Lauren and Nicholas know Dad will continue to watch over their families because “every good project needs a supervisor…”.

A graveside service and Inurnment for both Jay and Mitch will be conducted at 11:00am on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Cedar Green Cemetery in Clayton, N.J. All are welcome.
