JOSEPH ANTHONY GENTILE – Obituary
Joseph Anthony Gentile, a devoted family man, proud U.S. Marine, and lover of nature and tradition, passed away peacefully in Glassboro, New Jersey, where he had lived for the past 16 years.
Born and raised in New Britain, Connecticut, Joe’s life journey was filled with rich experiences and deep roots that spanned not only his home state but also Turi, Bari, Italy, where he lived for ten years. A proud graduate of Central Connecticut State University, Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1993. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Lejeune.
Joe was known for his deep love of the outdoors. Whether building rock walls in the woods/around his home, tending to his cherished fig plants and vegetable garden, or picking cherries in Italy, he found joy in the simple, earthy pleasures of life. He treasured time at the beach; digging holes in the sand with his children, swimming in the ocean, and soaking in the sun. Joe was also an avid camper, golfer, skier, and backyard griller, famous in his family for his homemade sausage and sweet tooth.
Professionally, Joe worked in the banking industry, holding positions at Barnett Bank and Regions Bank. But his true passion was his family. He was happiest when surrounded by them; playing sports and cards, sharing meals, and making memories.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Angela Gentile, and their children: Fabio Gentile; Pietro Gentile and his wife Samantha; Kevin Gentile and his wife Roxanna; and Doug Gentile and his wife Carolyn. He was a proud grandfather to Rose, Kallie, Christina, Claudia (and her husband Brandon), Joshua (and his wife Melanie), and great-grandfather to Wyatt.
He is also survived by his siblings: Maria Shemansky (and husband Bill), Jim Gentile (and wife Paula), Mike Gentile (and wife Radica), Frank Gentile (and wife Lori), Louie Gentile (and wife Sharon), and brother-in-law Giuseppe Carenza (and wife Memma) as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Michele and Rosa Gentile, his brother, Vito Gentile, and his inlaws, Pietro and Rosa Carenza.
His legacy lives on in the love he shared, the traditions he honored, and the strength and kindness he instilled in those who knew him.
